Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal data Cardamom Hills Journal (periyarfoundation.org) handles and why. We keep it short because we collect very little.

What we collect

Messages you send us

When you use the contact form, we store your name, your email address and your message so that we can read and answer it. A copy is forwarded to the editors' inbox. We do not add you to any mailing list, and we do not sell or share your message.

Spam protection

The contact form and the site's sign-in page use Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from automated scripts. Turnstile processes technical data such as your IP address and browser characteristics for that check. Cloudflare's own privacy policy covers that processing.

Server logs

Like almost every website, our servers and our network provider keep short-lived technical logs (IP address, the page requested, browser type, time) for security and to keep the site running. We do not use them to build profiles of visitors.

Partner link counts

When you click a labelled partner link, the site records that a link in a given position was clicked on a given day. That count holds no IP address, no cookie and nothing that identifies you.

We do not run advertising networks, analytics trackers or social media pixels on this site.

Some pages carry labelled partner links, for example to Booking.com or a travel insurance company. These links run through affiliate networks such as CJ Affiliate (Commission Junction) or MaxBounty. If you follow one, the network and the partner may set cookies in your browser so that a later reservation or purchase can be credited to us. Those cookies are set on their domains, not ours, and their own privacy policies apply. You can block or delete them in your browser settings at any time; the link will still work.

How long we keep things

Contact messages are kept for as long as they are useful for answering you and for our records, and no longer than two years. Link click counts are kept as anonymous daily totals.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete the message you sent us. Write to fieldnotes@periyarfoundation.org from the address you used and tell us what you would like done. If you are in the European Union, the United Kingdom or India, you also have the rights given by your local data protection law, including the right to complain to your regulator.

Changes

If we change how we handle data, we will update this page. The current version applies from the date you read it.
